Biography

Lori Kiergaard has always been a creator. She was born and raised in Northern Illinois, growing up in a town of 600 people. Surrounded by cornfields, she spent most of her childhood outdoors on a bicycle with an endless supply of electrical tape.

Lori started painting in 1983 and was self taught until boosting her painting knowledge with a handful of workshops, traveling to visit the "masters" and through her regular involvement with other artists in various painting forums. Lori is a founding member as well as the creator and former site administrator for the Online Artists Guild. She lives in Crystal Lake, Illinois with her artist husband and family.

Statement

I picked up a brush and knew instantly that I was meant to be a painter. It felt so natural, and I knew that I was now part of a long history of others who chose to express art and beauty through oil painting. I believe my work expresses a truth and honesty that comes from my personal experience and many years of studying, experimenting, and listening to the inner voice which pushes me forward. There is no end of study for a painter- learning to paint is a life's work.

A ReviewFrom Manhattan's Gallery and Studio Magazine:

. . . . "Lori Kiergaard reveals a unique approach to still life in a series of six related oils on panel in which elaborate arrangements of objects such as crystal bowls, glass vases filled with colorful flower, china tea cups, silver pitchers, and other objects are exploited for their reflective or transparent surfaces, with various suburban settings visible in the back-ground. In one especially effective panel, "Dinner at John's", the face of a man plays hide and seek among a plethora of objects, the sheer profusion of which activates the entirecomposition with swirling energy."
